Maintaining Balance

It was a busy night at the Pitcher and Piano restaurant Sarah and Jade did not make dinner reservations so they were asked to take a seat at the bar until a table becomes available. They sat at the bar and asked for the cocktail menu, Sarah ordered a glass of red wine and Jade ordered a Gin and Tonic and asked the bartender to hold the tonic. Sarah looked at her smiled and asked “Is everything okay hun?”   Jade replied “I feel off balance” Sarah, called out to the bartender and said “Forget the glass of wine, I will have what she is having, it is going to be a long night” Jade smirked at Sarah and said to the bartender “We will both have a glass of red wine” Jade began “I have given my entire life to my business , I have been an Entrepreneur for the past 15 years and presently I feel overwhelmed. I am aware that I need to take a break and do something for myself but I am not sure what to do.  I am unable to maintain my hair and nails because I am so busy and I cannot afford to sit in the beauty parlor for extended hours with my current workload, it makes me feel anxious.” Jade paused and went on to sayI personally feel responsible for the success of my business and I am extremely overwhelmed. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do for myself to avoid feeling overwhelmed and please do not say go shopping. I’m tired off shopping it does not bring me joy anymore.  I’m starting to feel like a machine. My life was not always like this! In 2014/2015 I was able to manage my business and my life. I had a balance.  Any suggestions?

Sarah reached out and held Jade’s hand and said “take a sip of the wine, breathe and relax.” They both took a sip of their wine and watched each other in the eyes for a few seconds. Then Sarah said, Jade you have the ability to design the life that you want. Winning is accomplishing the goals you have set for yourself without losing balance. You mentioned that in 2014 and 2015 that you were managing your business and balancing life extremely well. I would like you to reflect for a moment and write down the differences in your business between 2014/2015 to now.  After you have viewed the differences, you will need to make a decision to get rid of the differences that are no longer serving you or find ways to manage the differences i.e. delegate. You also said that shopping no longer gives you joy. My friend joy comes from the inside of you and also from a relationship with God. External factors such as shopping, pedicures, travelling, contributes to happiness momentarily. Everlasting joy, unspeakable joy comes from internal factors, for example knowing the Word of God. The Psalmist David said Psalms 61:2 “…when my heart is overwhelmed lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”  The rock is the Lord.” I know that you are thankful for the way God has enlarged your business and that you are not complaining. I am encouraging you to kneel in prayer and ask God how to handle the increase in your business.  His word declares that he will perfect that which concerns you in Psalms 138:8.

Taking care of yourself should always be a priority, whether its emotional care, spiritual care, or physical care. Having your nails or hair done should never be viewed as an inconvenience. FEAR rears its ugly head in different forms. What you are explaining to me sounds like FEAR.  You feel responsible for your business because you have given it your all and your business is all that you have and you have to stay on top in this competitive world. You have trained yourself to think and believe that you cannot make money if you are not sitting at your office desk, but that is not true. It is time to create effective efficient systems that would allow your business to run smoothly, you will be in control, you will not fail, this discomfort is taking you to a new dimension in business.  It is all about how you manage it. My suggestions to you to avoid losing balance is (1) reflect on the differences between your business in 2014/201515 to present; (2) Pray and ask God how to manage this increase in business; (3) design the life that you want by visualizing it, then (4) create a vision board to help you stay focus, a vision board is a visual representation of your goals.  Now, let’s order dinner, I am starved.
