Committed to a Healthy Lifestyle

A few days ago, I fully committed myself to living a healthier lifestyle. I signed up for a new gym membership and have been going every day since. Next door to the gym is a juice bar. I stopped in yesterday to try one of the fresh juices on their menu and found it to be delicious, but kind of pricey – definitely not something I would want to make a habit of purchasing daily. I like to save money anytime that I can so I made note of the ingredients that made up The Detox, the name of the juice I tried, and decided that I would try to make my own version of it at home.

Well today, I began my journey into juicing and I’m already giving it the side-eye. After completing my workout at the gym this morning, I made a stop at the grocery store to pick up all of the ingredients to create a delicious, refreshing, all natural juice. Or so I thought. When I got home, I pulled out the juicer that was gifted to me and my husband over 5 years ago on our wedding day. Today was my first time actually using it – don’t judge me. As I pulled out all the parts to this juicer and blender in one, I started trying to assemble it and found out that I might need the directions, which went missing at some point over the years. I called my husband for assistance, but he wasn’t much help over the phone so I went to where you can learn how to do pretty much anything, YouTube. I found a review on my exact juicer and followed the steps to put it together. Now that I had it all together, I thought that I was well on my way to creating a lip-licking masterpiece. I was wrong. I was really on my way to finding out that my juicer sucks.

After 30 minutes of doing not much more than making a mess due to having to disassemble, clean, and reassemble parts of the juicer because it kept shutting off every time the strainer got clogged or the motor ran hot, I finally decided to give up. After all of that, I still hadn’t even made a half a cup. Determined not to waste the ingredients I already cut up, I threw it all in my blender with hopes that I could salvage it and make something out of the time I spent. Let’s just say that I’m very clear now on the differences between a juicer and blender. What I ended up with was a chunky substance that was very difficult to drink. Although disappointed that things did not go anything like how I imagined, I always try to find the lesson in every experience.

Life has already taught me that not everything will go as I plan, but today I was reminded of that again. Even though the outcome wasn’t what I expected, I’m grateful for this experience because it was also a reminder that the best things in life won’t always be easy to obtain. Yes, I gave up today because there’s nothing more that I can do with the equipment that I have, but I will try again when I purchase a juicer that works the way I need it to. No, I didn’t think I’d have to invest in a new juicer when I set out on this juicing journey, but I will because I am committed to doing whatever I need to do to be in the best health. Challenges like the ones I experienced today can be enough to cause a lot of people to quit indefinitely on attempting to reach their goals and achieve greater in their lives. But not me, and I hope not you either. It won’t always be smooth sailing to reach your desired destination, but if you make the choice to keep going despite the obstacles you face, you will eventually get there. I look forward to sharing my first successful juicing experience with you. Until then, keep working and winning!
