Until recently, I happily celebrated Valentine’s Day with my significant other without taking into consideration that this day is not a happy day for everyone. Since starting Women By Choice, connecting with women from all walks of life, and becoming more aware of the struggles women experience, it was placed on my heart to write this love letter to my sisters. While I am thankful to have my husband to share this day with, I know that some of my sisters are still trying to make the best of the single life, getting over a break-up, or grieving the loss of their significant other. If nothing else, I just want to be a reminder to my sisters that they are loved.
You are loved. On the days when you feel overlooked, unappreciated, and unworthy, you are loved. On the days when life seems unfair, you are loved. On the days when you’re tired of waiting for love, you are loved. On the days when the heartbreak feels too painful to bear, you are loved. On the days when you cry yourself to sleep, you are loved. On the days when you have no idea how you will keep going, you are loved. On the days when you give love to people who don’t reciprocate it, you are loved. You are always loved because God loves you. If you reflect on your life, you will see that God has always loved you. From the moment you were born, God has been guiding you, molding you, strengthening you, protecting you, and preparing you to become the woman you were created to be. I know that you have plans, dreams, and expectations for your life, but so does God. You may not be able to see it right now, but God’s plans are the best and when you trust in Him, He will guide you to love, peace, happiness, and success greater than you could ever imagine. There is no greater love than God’s love and no better place to be than in His favor. Sis, embrace God’s love and love yourself first.
You may not have a “valentine” to shower you with gifts, but you can shower yourself with self-love. Self-love is one of the best gifts you can give yourself because it is always present even in the absence of people who love you. You never need to beg for, force, or chase love, sis. Instead focus on becoming love, embracing love, exuding love, and appreciating the love that is already present in your life and you will naturally attract real, genuine, life-changing, world-shaking love. Sister, you aren’t just loved, you have the power to love. Your presence on this Earth is a representation of God’s love, not just for you, but for everyone who is blessed to cross paths with you. So today, try not to spend a lot of time focusing on your lack or loss of love, sister. Instead try your best to be grateful for the love you have now and the love you have been blessed to experience. Do your best to give the kind of love you desire to receive. And remember, despite what life looks like or how you feel today, you are always and unconditionally loved. Have faith in your journey, sis. Your best days are ahead of you.
